Research Objectives

  • Describe the background of helmets. 
    • Why was the helmet introduced?
    • When was the helmet introduced?
    • Research and find one or two accidents where the injury / damage could have been reduced if the people involved were wearing helmets.
  • Describe the development of helmets using science.
    • How is science applied in developing / designing helmets?
    • How does wearing a helmet protect the wearer - using scientific evidence through research.
      • Describe at least 2 ways in which the traveller can be protected during an accident because of the helmet.
  • Discuss pros and cons of wearing a helmet interacting with one of the factors:  moral, ethical, social, economic, political, cultural, or environmental.
    • Use clear communication, specific detail, and good use of scientific language.
  • Document sources completely in MLA format.  *You must have at least 2 citations to score a level 5-6.

Outcome / Product:
Create an informative electronic poster describing the role of wearing a helmet.  Your poster will be shared with your classmates on Padlet, and later will be published for your parents' viewing.  You will be expected to read and thoughtfully respond to at least five of your classmates' posters.

Basic formatting for various reference citations:

    Author Last Name, Author First Name. Title of Book. City of Publication, Publisher, Publication Date.
     
  • Database Article
    Author Last Name, Author First Name. “Title of Article.” Title of Journal, vol. (volume number), no. (issue number), Date published. Title of Database, url. Date accessed (Ex. Accessed 1 April 2020). 
     
  • Digital Image
    Author Last Name, Author First Name. “Title of Image.” Title of Website, Publisher of Site (only if this is different than the name of the website), url of website. Date accessed (Ex. Accessed 1 April 2020). 
     
  • Online Video
