Criterion D - Applying Mathematics in Real Life Situations

  1. Topic chosen is relevant and authentic

    • Find yourself a great title – make it stand out on your poster.

  2. Mathematical strategies chosen are appropriate for the topic and the grade level

    • Decide how you will calculate the volume and/or mass of the paper used by Ms. Lee Kim in one year. Give your reason for your choice.

  3. Correct mathematics is used to calculate the solution or to reach a conclusion

    • Make sure the mathematics used is correct & full working shown.

  4. The accuracy of the solution / conclusion is discussed within the context of the mathematics used

    • Use common sense and reasoning to verify (check) that your calculations are accurate & correct.

  5. Describe & discuss the implications of your finding in real-life situation

    • Use more mathematics to connect the volume or mass of the paper to the number of trees – from your research work. Discuss the meaning & relevance of this information in daily life.

  6. Full citation in correct MLA format is given for the research conducted

Criterion C - Communicating

Objective: Create a poster to communicate your calculations, conclusions & recommendations.

  • Mathematical processes are shown clearly with logical working

  • Mathematical information is correct and shows good understanding within the real-life context

  • The poster communicates clearly through coherent lines of reasoning

  • The poster presents work that is consistently organized using logical structure

  • The poster is attractive and easy to read / understand

  • Every member in the group has participated equally and the team has worked well together
